Presidential Elections 2004

In the end, its going to be the economy - and the war

By Ted Weaver

03/15/2002

I think President G. W. Bush and our armed services are doing a magnificent job on the war effort to root out and neutralize all of the AI Qaeda terrorist and the Taliban soldiers in Afghanistan. The actions have been quick and decisive. In a short time, the administration has been able to build a relatively large coalition of countries in support of eradicating the terrorist threat worldwide. The 80% nationwide approval ratings for the president are indicative of the successes to date for the administration.

The future actions by this president, with regards to the war on terrorism, I think is going to be just as precise and aggressive, as has been demonstrated thus far in protecting the homeland against future terrorist and other types of attacks. But in just a short 2 years from now, the presidential election machine will get up and running full steam and the democrats will be looking for ammo to degrade this president and his administration.

Naturally, what comes to mind in the present is the stock market scams which really took off during the Clinton administration, like the Enron mess or the Global Crossing and a whole hoard of others. No, I don't think its going to be this. Feathers just don't stick to cold tar. Though I'm sure they will try to heat some up.

As the old adage goes -history repeats itself over and over - what comes to mind is the 1992 presidential election in which then, a little known Arkansas governor upset the poll rating scheme of things.

The first Pres. Geo. Bush was riding high (in polls) on incredible successes of the military operations in the Middle East dubbed operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. This wars effort saw a very minimal amount of casualties in relations to the size in number of the military personnel used. Built an unprecedented large coalition of countries worldwide and reasserted the prestige of Americas military back where it belonged. Nor were there any major scandals that one can easily remember .

Then we saw the what seemed like a perpetual downward slide in the poll numbers over a short period of time. Obviously, there wasn't much to complain about except for the economy. Being in a recession then, the democrats came out swinging. Using the mood of this nations economy to its benefit.

Divide and conquer -an old military ploy. What I thought that was such a huge success for the democrats was the ploy they used in the 1992 presidential election which was scaring a large segment of the elderly and senior citizens into thinking the Republicans and the then Bush administration was going to take away their social security benefits and others. How untrue that was, but lets face it, there was a huge segment of the older population that believed what they were hearing from the liberal leaning TV news programs and the DNC election ads. The next thing you knew, your grandmother was telling you that the -son of a gun -was going to take away seniors social security. Of course, she heard this rumor from others too. A lot of voting seniors were convinced that this was the case. Just try to convince a scared senior citizen otherwise!

Another area of democrat strategy will be I suppose is that if the AI Qaeda and Taliban leaders  Osama Bin Laden and Mullah Ohmar aren't brought back in some way, this will be used by the liberals, as an argument against any future operations and as to why we shouldn't progress on the war against terror or consider the Afghanistan involvement a total success -they'll try it.

Already, we are seeing stiff democratic resistance to U.S. becoming more independent from foreign oil sources and the impetus being placed in front of the President preventing him from helping to bring in almost one "trillion" much needed dollars to the U.S. economy. I suppose that the summer time -black fly infested area known as Anwar, Alaska -is more important than the U.S. economy. This just proves to what extreme the demmies will go to sabotage the economy. Black flies first, then the working people of the United States. Anything to make the republicans look bad when it comes to the economy for the sake of future elections.

One of the brighter spots for the republicans is the fact that there now is a larger, and more organized conservative media. I'll give the scandal ridden Clinton/Gore administration credit for inciting this increase. The republicans won't let the democrats get away with their disinformation campaigns anymore.

I think that one of the reasons the economy is partially recessed is because of the attitudes of the American people. They appear to be slightly depressed and cautious after 9/11. I would think more cautious than depressed. There really is no reason to be any more. Were in good hands I feel. I think what we need to do is tell the population to go out and spend money, this is important. Buy more products and services. Help to do the patriotic thing, keep the American economy strong which would be a good way to contribute. Its not as much consumer confidence spending as much as it really is just plain confidence in our country and society in general. You see, those scum-bag terrorist weren't just making a statement that they could cause massive destruction to two tall buildings, but there was a much more devious act perpetrated -to slow us down and hurt our economic well being and to manipulate our foreign and domestic policies.

For in the end, when the presidential elections come around in 2004, barring any unforeseeable scandals or unforeseen terrorist strikes on the country, no doubt, it will be the economy again and what has been achieved in the war on terror both in present and in future operations.
